Well, that settles it. I'm in love with Elizabeth Brown. The characteristics of her male leads are practically identical to what I envision in the perfect man. Humorous, thoughtful, capable, quick-witted, protective. I could go on and on (and that doesn't even include their physical attributes!). After reading The Lessons, I was in love with Ryan. I was half expecting this book to be inferior to the first, because how could any man measure up to Mr. Andrews? Well, apparently, Lam can!
And Ms. Brown's leading ladies are far from damsels-in-distress. Sure, the women from both books have obstacles to overcome but I absolutely adored seeing the couples tackle said obstacles and grow together. It makes the story all the more believable to me and gives an incentive to root for their happy ending.
Alright. On to my thoughts...
In The Rules, we have a standard idea here that has been done many times. Dude who falls for his best friend's sister. And while it isn't anything groundbreaking, it is certainly done justice in this book. More than that, though, are several other struggles that Ainsley and Lambo have to work through in order to be together. I won't disclose what those are, though.
Right from the beginning, I see the chemistry between the two and feel the tug-and-pull as they attempt to avoid (then hide) their impending romance for the sake of the 'bro code'. But soon, both are in over their heads and tumbling fast.
Oh, and the love scenes in this book are sizzling!
I am giddy with schoolgirl excitement, waiting to see/hear who the next book is going to be about. I'm sure it will probably be another one of the guys on the soccer team, which I am all-in for! But even if it's two random people meeting in the grocery store, I don't care. If Elizabeth Brown tells the story, I will read it!
In closing...
Sometimes your destiny is found in the last place you would ever look. Deeply fleshed out characters and a dash of naughty make this forbidden romance story one that I will definitely read again! 5 sizzling suns!

4.5 I loved the story of these two. I don't want to give spoilers, but was happy with how topics were handled. I didn't expect those topics, but they touched me personally. I'll have to read book 1 and book 3 now!
I loved the banter between Lam and Ainsley. They were so cute together. Lam was hilarious and so sweet. Every woman should have a guy like Lam in their life!
Sweet ends happen but some many tragedies along the journey of life. I couldn’t believe how one copes and overcomes without being bitter to the end....good story.
This is a must read. Even though I enjoyed book one it's not necessary to read before you read this, so don't put it off. Read this book. I am over the moon for Lambo. I literally couldn't put it down. I read at stop lights. I was hooked. I can't recommend this book enough. This book was worth every second I spent reading it. This also proves you don't have to pay 7.99 for a fantastic book.
If you skip this your missing out.
A great follow up to The Lessons, this one focuses on the damaged, but still fighting, Ainsley. The author does a fantastic job of dealing with her past abuse and current mental illness, and balances it with characters and events that are still fun and lively. You really root for the heroine to get past her issues and have a more satisfying life. The hero is also fun - a little cocky, but still able to put his girl first. Great read.
This one hooked from the beginning to the last word. Ms. Brown really has the gift of spinning a story that makes you laugh, cry, cheer, remember what it felt like to fall in love, empathize with the way the characters felt about such serious subjects (read it to see what I mean) & have that dorky satisfied smile that hits you when you get to that absolutely perfect ending. You can't help but fall in love with Lam, Wins, Ryan, Natalie & the rest of the characters. Loved it!!!
This is my second read by Elizabeth Brown and she knocked it out of the park. Brilliantly written, well developed characters, intriguing story line, drama, sex, angst, and humor. I found myself saying “just one more chapter.” The story line is so much more than just the off limits brother’s best friend and I strongly believe that Elizabeth Brown did an amazing job with the story line.
We met Ainsley in book 1 The Lessons. She suffers from some bi-polar disorder and some other dark issues that come out in this book. These issues have trapped her from a fulfilling love life. She’s had a crush on her brother’s best friend for years. On a trip to Vegas she reveals her secrets and he tries to help. One thing leads to another and they quickly become inseparable. Will she be able to overcome her past and have a future she deserves?
Elizabeth Brown did an amazing job of keeping the reader wanting more with situations of drama, suspense, heat and passion. She made the characters come to life depicting several real life characteristics that included loyalty, compassion, surviving, responsibility, loneliness, and mental health issues. She provided a well thought out plot, laugh out loud dialogue, the witty heroine and a lovable hero. I can’t wait to read more from Elizabeth Brown
