I acquired it to see if it would be appropriate for my grandkids. It has a great message and is told in a very interesting manner. I would highly recommend it.
A fun but short read I found entertaining
A great short story with a great moral. A fantastic tool for helping to teach young humans that true beauty isn't about physical appearance! Well worth the price!

Good "little engine that could" story. I enjoyed it immensely. And the calico truck is much like my own truck. I'm sure little kids will enjoy it.
I really enjoyed this book. Despite the fact I am an adult of advanced age I found this book to be a joy to read. It is poignant but also funny. I really like the colourful use of Southern rural language. It is charming and well-written.
Our culture, which suffers from a near-pathologic focus on the superficial, needs gentle instruction in the appreciation of inherent strength and resolve, and even mere utility. Michael Morrison has given us one such example with his short tale for youngsters, "The Calico Truck".
More than just "the little train that could," Morrison's Calico Truck earns respect despite its unlikely and unappealing appearance. The lesson is delivered subtly, even if the story-telling is decidedly straightforward and unembellished.
Of extra interest, Morrison includes a glossary that helps younger readers develop their vocabulary, and might even prompt him or her to develop a taste for understanding.
I just read THE CALICO TRUCK and it is fabulous! For any kid of any age but instructive for those 6-12. Get it, read it, smile all day! Calico Truck will give you 'Aww moments' everytime you think about it and it is an easy read for youth with a meaningful climax. Thanks, Michael Morrison for creating this compellingly human story. This is a 5 star read!
I decided to read this book even though it is described as a novel for young people. I presume I am young at heart because I loved this story. It took less than an hour to read and was well worth every minute and penny spent.
The story is about Howard who owns an old truck. He is constantly teased about his ugly truck. But his truck has been faithful to Howard and he is loyal to his still useful truck. Howard comes across a perilous situation involving a school bus. All of the shiny-truck onlookers don't know what to do. Howard and his Calico Truck save the day.
The story reminded me that beauty is only skin deep and we should be civil to all even though they may not measure up to the fashionable elites. It is also a tale of unending loyalty and devotion to services rendered in the past. Don't discount what old people can accomplish as they have more experience than just callous remarks. Today it is all about "what have you done for me lately."
A must read for all ages, but specifically for the young who are so engrossed in "me, myself and I." Please buy and read this uplifting story. You will receive one hundred fold for the effort you put into buying and reading.
